Tell you what, Mace...
Fire Jon, and I'll root for Iowa.
In all seriousness, until I was besoiled by your obnoxious little brother, Iowa was always my second favorite team in the Big 10, behind only Ohio St.
Now look what happened!

Re: Tell you what, Mace...
I got a better idea. Instead of Mace "firing" me, how's about you not run your mouth like a fucking asshole all offseason next year? Then when Iowa wins 10+ games again next year, you won't hear me calling you out for melting down about Iowa's success because you won't need to make all kinds of excuses for why they're winning since you didn't go off on them during the offseason.Van wrote:Fire Jon, and I'll root for Iowa.

You started this, man. Not me. I heard your garbage all offseason. I will defend my team when they deserve to be defended. Like I said, you just wanted to run your mouth about the Hawks and have me (or any Iowa fan) stay quiet and be cool with your trash talking. No sir. Not gonna happen. If you wanna discuss Iowa, go ahead. But when your only take is "Iowa sucks, Big-10 sucks, they didn't beat anyone, they're lucky, Ferentz is a bum, MSU is a better program, etc", what type of response do you expect???
Have a take, show some class, and you'll get a decent response from me. You'd be surprised at the kind of response you'd get if you just brought up some actual rebuttals about Iowa as opposed to the crap you have been saying.
Re: Tell you what, Mace...
Mace, how does anybody come to hate Minny? That's like hating lintballs.
My "love to hate" teams were always Bama, Michigan and Nebraska, plus UCLA, obviously.
I never did hate ND, oddly enough, and I no longer hate Bama, Michigan or Nebraska. I'd say Bama has been replaced by LSU, and no Big XII team replaced Nebraska. Michigan is still my least favorite Big 10 team, but since they can't compete anymore with Ohio St I just have no reason to dislike them.
Then there's...Cal.
Growing up as a Pirates and Steelers fan, I couldn't help but like Iowa.

Van, dude, just mea culpa. Iowa's a lot better than you thought they would be.
They ARE who we thought they WEREN'T.

Re: Tell you what, Mace...
I hate Minnesota because I've got d-bag friends that root for Minnesota and call me up on a regular basis to chant "WHO HATES IOWA? WE HATE IOWA!". You can't beat these guys, you can only hope to score more points than them! We win 55-0 last year and Gopher fan still talks shit. Goofer fan ALWAYS talks shit.Mace, how does anybody come to hate Minny? That's like hating lintballs.
Mostly, their fans just annoy me. I never liked Jim Wacker (but his wife, Lil, had a great name!). Hated Glenn Mason even more. Hate Brewster even more than both of them combined. I don't respect their program or their fans because they're not loyal, and they're obnoxious. Sit near Goofer fans at an Iowa-Minnesota game and we could be up 42-0 and they're still chanting "Who hates Iowa? We hate Iowa" constantly. It's creative a once or twice, but even when their team is getting their tails kicked in they still have to remind us how much they hate us.
And then there's Gopher fan that still brags about how awesome the Goofs 20 years before I was even born, nevermind the fact that they've sucked ever since. Even when Gopher fan comes to Kinnick, they are not very pleasant to hang out with. I honestly can't think of any fan base in the Big-10 other than Goofer fan that I refuse to tailgate with because they're always assholes.
Tearing down THEIR goalposts after clinching the Big-10 title will always be one of my fondest memories as an Iowa fan. It's a big rivalry, even though it's no longer competitive.

They're only douchebags because they root for Minnesota. When they aren't talking Goofer football, they're pretty cool folks actually.IndyFrisco wrote:Why do you hang with douchebags? No one else want to be your friend?

Re: Tell you what, Mace...
I just can't hate a doormat. No way I could hate a Minnesota, a Mississippi St or this current Washington St team. I stopped hating Michigan, Bama and Nebraska because it became no fun to hate them.
Same with the Boston Celtics, for a long while after Bird retired.
A team has to be able to consistently piss me off by winning games I don't want them winning, in order for me to hate them.

Why would anyone really care though about something called the Floyd of Rosedale Trophy? To a bunch of mostly black players who weren't even born yet whenever that thing got started, how much more Mayberry can it get than that?
"Owww! My fuggen eye!"
"Purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka...."Why would anyone from Minnesota feel superior to anyone?

Re: Tell you what, Mace...
I see what you're saying, but the difference is you're not living around fans of those teams out there in Cali. We all grew up around Gopher fans and listened to their arrogance. I know, how could Goofer fan be arrogant? Yeah, you got me there.I just can't hate a doormat. No way I could hate a Minnesota, a Mississippi St or this current Washington St team. I stopped hating Michigan, Bama and Nebraska because it became no fun to hate them.
Nebraska is similar. I didn't hate Nebraska only because they were good. I hated Nebraska because they were annoying and 2 hours down the road. I will admit, I don't hate Nebraska as much as I used to because they aren't winning so much.
Iowa State is our biggest rival and they're terrible. It's all about Iowa and Iowa State fans living, working, and going to school together. I know it's just wrong to pick on little brother, but we just can't help ourselves! Plus, no fan base in the country talks more shit than ISU fan. Seriously! I know, what the fuck? I've never understood that.

'Spray, what does USC have to do with Iowa, Jon, or this thread?
Besides, speaking of USC, which I wasn't, but okay, now I will...
:)
USC can still finish this season with a top ten ranking, eleven wins and a win in a BCS bowl game. I don't think they will, but they still can. If they do, how fucked up is that for the rest of the country, when even the worst USC team in recent memory still won a BCS bowl game on their way to their eighth straight eleven win season...and they're returning nearly everyone for next season, with a really favorable schedule too.
Nah, it may not take long at all for them to get over this last game.

Van, you really think 2 PAC teams are BCSing?
Have you forgotten what conference you're in?
The conf champ-to-be is sitting on the bubble as faras rankings go, and will get in only through the tie-in.

Re: Tell you what, Mace...
No, like I said, I don't think they will, but they could.
Here's how...
-OSU beats PSU, handing them their second loss.
-Iowa beats OSU, handing OSU their third loss. This may not even be necessary, since USC beat OSU, and the BCS would much rather see USC than Ohio St.
So, now we have the Big 10 out of the running for an At-Large bid, and nobody other than Texas from the Big XII is getting a bid. Those are the two conferences, along with the SEC, who always seem to get two teams into the BCS. With those two out of the way, that finally opens up a spot for a second Pac 10 team.
-Oregon magically appears in the title game, leaving a spot open in the Rose Bowl.
-Oregon plays in the Rose Bowl, leaving a spot open in the Fiesta, Sugar or Orange.
-TCU or Boise lose somewhere.
In the end, and this is obviously only if USC wins out, and looks decent in doing so, they'll be a 10-2 USC team in competition for an At-Large BCS bowl spot against...who? ND? USC would get that spot, over a two-loss ND.
Pretty much, unless both TCU and Boise run the table - a very distinct likelihood - a 10-2 USC team probably gets one of the At-Large bids.

Van was wondering why we hate Minnesota when they suck. Well, naturally, this discussion is going to lead towards ISU given the topic. Most of this thread is about Minnesota, by the way- not ISU.
Don't worry, Minor, if you hung around this board enough you'd realize NOBODY talks ISU. You should be happy I remind the folks over here that they even still have a football team. You can tell Jamie Pollard he owes me 10 bucks for my services to the Cyclone Nation.
By the way.......we're 9-0. 9 wins = the most wins ISU has ever had in an ENTIRE season.
Thanks for stopping by. Now tell your team to quit losing. You're killing our BCS ranking.

I don't think it's unrealistic for USC to make the BCS. But they do need some help.Dinsdale wrote:Van, you really think 2 PAC teams are BCSing?

Had me going there for a minute... USC in a BCS bowl.
They need Ohio State to beat Penn State and lose to Iowa, or beat Iowa and lose to Michigan. This would eliminate a chance for a 2nd Big-10 BCS bid.
Then they need to hope either TCU or Boise State lose.
And, of course, they need to finish 10-2.
This really isn't that unrealistic of a scenario. Yes, they need all these things to happen, but it could. Stranger things have happened in CFB.
What 10-2 football team do you think the BCS bowl committee's would rather see than USC?
