Draft, Rd. 1 - who's your team takin'?

Post by poptart »

Lot of Raider fans think it'll be OT Trent Williams.
Some think it could be OT Bryan Bulaga.
Some think OT Bruce Campbell.
Some think QB Jimmy Clausen.
Some think LB Rolando McClain.
Some think other things ...

Me thinks CB Joe Haden will be the pick.
Good man cover guy.
Physical.
Decent tackler.
Pretty good measurables.

CB was a bit of a weak point last season (well, what position wasn't?) and Al luvs his corners.

Not sure I'd be that thrilled with Haden being the guy.
I think we need BEEF.

I might like for "us" to take McClain with #8 overall, if he's there.

Well, Al is Al and really, anything is possible.

pop, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Haden the Florida DB who tested out as being really slow during the combines? If that's the case, nah, Al won't draft him, not while Willie Gault is still on the board.

The KC Star's fishwrap draft guru has Suh dropping to #5 and falling into the Chiefs lap. I don't believe this will happen, but will party like an animal if it does.

and fwiw, Randy Covitz also has the 'duhs taking RB C.J. Spiller, Clemson... saying that Alcula can't resist another speedster.

Wags, what has been the take among Chiefs fans and Chiefs management regarding Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson? Have they fallen out of favor, thus the interest in Suh? With as much as the Chiefs have invested in those two guys, being that Dorsey was the fifth overall pick and Jackson the third overall pick, it makes one wonder.

Dorsey was never a defensive end, yet when the Chiefs went to the 3-4 he moved to DE, which is also where Jackson plays. Would they use Suh in the middle or on the outside, and would Dorsey stay on the outside?

Fans think Dorsey and Jackson both suck and don't want to draft another player from LSU, ever.

Suh, otoh, is as near a "can't miss" player as you'll ever see. I'll be shocked if he drops to #5. And I'll be equally shocked if KC doesn't then take him. Shocked and pissed.

He did run a "slow" 40 there, and yeah, such a thing would typically put a scratch through his name on Al's master sheet, but he apparently had a back injury and considered not running at all.
His competetive nature prompted him to give it a go, anyway.

Take it for what it's worth.

Wagon, I'd also be surprised if Suh dropped to 5.
Might be the best player in the draft.

But ... stranger things have happened.

I see KC fag is questioning the sanity of the Oakland Raiders' management, yet his shit squad is picking before the Raiders.

That being said, with the first pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders select: Usain Bolt............

Golden Tate- WR Notre Dame. Played in a pro style offense and is a Hines Ward clone who can step into Ward's shoes.

If he's still available, then I see the Giants taking McClain from Alabama.

Based on selfish reasons I'd like to see them take Jason Pierre-Paul.

Don Banks at SI has the Packers taking Maryland OT Bruce Campbell, 6-7 & 310. It’s about fucking time.

Hopefully the Skins draft Okung or trade down for extra picks and a lower rated OT.

I have a feeling they are going to draft Erik Berry after TheDan and Vinny blindside Bruce Allen with a steel chair.

Why burn up a 2nd round pick on a guy that likely won't make the Arena League?

This guy?

At the Combine, I believe his 40 time was...

well, they're still administering medical assistance after he tried to run a full 40 yards without stopping to rest.

While us armchair football scouts are well-known for being wrong, it's been a long time since a "big name" prospect at a "non-skill" position has had the word "BUST" tattooed on his forehead like TC does.

I think they go with Suh because of his versatility inside while McCoy is strictly a 3-technique. Both guys are excellent prospects but the Lions need a true playmaker on the defensive line and Suh fits the bill.

His conditioning is definitely a serious concern but nose tackles are at premium and it is a critical need for the team. Personally I Cam Thomas but 40 looks to be little high. Possibly they could trade down in that round and pick him up. One way or another, they need a wide body in the middle to stuff the run.

You do realise that you had the two worst offensive tackles in the league, right? Your right tackle was the most penalized tackle in the league and your left tackle gave up the most sacks.

If there is any shred of sanity left, the Duhs will take the best OT on the board.

Oh, I hear ya, mvscal.

As I said, I think Oakland needs beef.
Need to get down to nuts and bolts.

I wouldn't be against them taking the best available tackle with their pick.

They've also been horrible v. the run forever.
For that reason, I might like for them to take McClain.

Not ALL fans....Dorsey had a decent year considering he was asked to play a position that he's never played before. Tyson Jackson isn't in the "bust" category yet. Feel free to give the dude another year or 2 before determining that.

Agreed- NO WAY do they pass on Suh if he's still there at #5....unless Berry is still there and word is that Cleveland wants him BADLY, bad enough to move up to get him.

Wags, defensive linemen generally don't make much of an impact in their 1st couple of years in the league. Rare is the one that does.

My only worry about drafting Suh at #2 is that you are guaranteeing him $12M per year. The NFL average for DT's is around $7-8M. So when you want to resign him in four years (assuming he's not a bust), you would essentially be telling him to take a pay cut. And if the guy is a Pro Bowler, do you give him a raise when he is already making $4-5M more than the average DT?

I've been hot and cold with some of the Lions picks in recent years...it's hard to go against taking this guy considering what we've seen of him. He'd be the most talented defensive player to wear a Lions uniform in quite a long time.

I don't give a fuck about someone else's shitty opinion, Goobs. Here a fucking fact: Over a span of 5 drafts from 2004-2008, only 33% of the Patriot's picks are still somewhere on an NFL roster, which places them dead last in the league in this category.

Trade down, trade down, accumulate picks for next year, etc. THEN. Release player... who then becomes a lettuce washer at Burger King. Great philosophy, eh? Is there any wonder their roster is so fucking depleted?
