OR
-What happens if the team that receives the ball first gets SAFETIED?
1. game over
2. game over
Key Definitions:
» Possession: Actual possession of the ball with complete control. The defense gains possession when it catches, intercepts, or recovers a loose ball.
A.R. 16.19 SAFETY
Third-and-5 on A7. On the opening possession of overtime, A1 is tackled in his own end zone for a safety.
Ruling: Game over. Team B wins. Both teams have met the minimum requirements for possession.

Thanks for making my point for me, jim.
Exactly how does a defense gain possession of the ball on a safety again?
Yer a Fuckin Jerkoff wrote:The rule explains a defensive possession as catching, recovering, intercepting a loose ball.
Tackling a player in the end zone= neither.
Epic fail, dipshits
See that link I posted in my initial response? Try clicking on it next time-
Following a three-minute intermission after the end of the regulation game, play will be continued in 15-minute periods until a winner is declared. Each team must possess or have the opportunity to possess the ball unless the team that has the ball first scores a touchdown on its initial possession. Play continues in sudden death until a winner is determined, and the game automatically ends upon any score (by safety, field goal, or touchdown) or when a score is awarded by the Referee for a palpably unfair act. Each team has three time-outs per half and all general timing provisions apply as during a regular game. The try is not attempted if a touchdown is scored. Disqualified players are not allowed to return
The part you highlighted refers to what happens AFTER both teams have a possession.
Read my scenario again. Trust me, the others who jumped on my ass in this thread ran the fuck out of Dodge after it dawned on them that the glitch I found is legit. You should try doing the same.

Why would the team that just recorded a safety need to have possession of the ball? I know you're just trolling but you've dropped below the mendoza line of shit posting this time.

Gee, I don't know.
Perhaps because the FUCKING RULES state that each team has to have POSSESSION?
Well not quite. Read the rule again.
If team A fails to score a TD on it's opening possession then team B has the opportunity for possession for a chance to complete a score and end the game. Guess what, when an offensive team gets tackled in the end zone, it has failed to score a TD on it's possession and by recording a safety, team B has recorded a score and ended the game. That's all that matters. No TD on opening possession? Next team to score wins.
A safety instantaneously ends possession of team and A records a score for team B. Game over.
Are you really that fucking dense of a troll? Or do you play one on T1B?
The rule clearly states at the START, that Each team must possess or have the opportunity to possess the ball unless the team that has the ball first scores a touchdown on its initial possession
A defense tackling the other in the end zone is neither an opportunity to possess or a possession itself by definition. And a safety is not a touchdown
Explain to me why the NFL fucked up by stating this and then adding a complete contradition that says "if there's a safety on the first possession, the game is over" :?
Repeat- in that scenario, BOTH TEAMS did NOT have a possession. The game should NOT be over. What a bunch of dumbasses.
Yer a Fuckin Jerkoff wrote:It's still an obvious loophole.

What would a team that just recorded 2 points AND stopped the other team from scoring a TD by ending their possession have to gain by receiving a free kick???? You do know that all the receiving team has to do is call for a fair catch once the ball is in the air and run the fuck in the opposite direction of the ball and the game is over. Right?

The question is, what would that team have to LOSE. What if the person returning the kick is confused, doesn't know the rules, and backpeddles, changes directions and gets tackled in his own end zone. Then it's 2-2.
The rules are confusing enough for something like that to happen.
Either way, the game shouldn't automatically END as sudden death on a safety.
